CITY OF UMHLATHUZE WELCOMES WORLD PLANNERS
The City of uMhlathuze Municipality is one of the five municipalities in KwaZulu-Natal that have accepted the opportunity offered by the ISOCARP to host a Technical Study Tour on 12 September 2016.
The International Society of City and Regional Planners (ISOCARP) is a global association of experienced professional planners. The ISOCARP network brings together individual and institutional members from more than 80 countries worldwide. The objectives of ISOCARP include the improvement of planning practice through the creation of a global and active network of practitioners.
The 52 nd ISOCARP Congress will be held in Durban from 12 – 16 September 2016. City of uMhlathuze has identified three projects earmarked for the Technical Tour, i.e. Richards Bay Steel Bridge, eMpangeni CBD Revitalization Plan and the uMzingwenya Settlement.
The Honourable Mayor Cllr Mduduzi Mhlongo extends his hands in welcoming the global planners in the city. “We welcome this opportunity with warm hand as it creates platforms for the city to share its vision with the world’s best in planning fraternity. We are looking forward to draw from their experiences as our city is also taking another shape and changing its landscape for the better. We have gone to public to say that we are on the process to relocate our airport, grow it to a regional airport city which will generate more economic activities. We also looking at reshaping our waterfront as well as many other projects that will change the landscape in our beautiful city,” says Mhlongo.
