CITY MAYOR PLEA WITH DRIVERS TO BE MORE VIGILANT DURING EASTER WEEKEND
The City of uMhlathuze strongly warns all drivers and road users that the transgression of traffic laws will not be tolerated during the coming Easter weekend.
The City’s traffic unit will be patrolling the City’s roads working closely with other enforcement units such as RTI, SAPS, SANDF, SARS, Intelligence and other structures to ensure road and public safety for all.
Citizens and visitors are encouraged to be vigilant and alert to any criminal activities which may occur while people are engaged in their respective congregations or spending the long weekend with friends and families. Any suspected or intercepted criminal acts should be reported to the SAPS and the local CPF and community safety structure.
“Ordinarily, this is a period for Christians to draw closer to God their Creator and worship together in different areas afar from their normal congregation’s location. It’s a time to reflect, introspect and reconnect with God and for those who are opting to spend this period in their homes with extended families; it is time for enjoyment and a short but appreciated break from work. It is very disturbing to learn of gruesome crimes as well as road accidents due to negligence, drinking and driving, disobeying of traffic rules, and so many other elements contributing to accidents. “
“There should be no accidents in the City of uMhlathuze during Easter. There should be no crime in the City of uMhlathuze and those who intend to take a chance drinking and driving on our roads must think twice. We have instructed our law enforcement units and partners to strengthen their operations and smile at no one who risks people’s lives,” says the City Mayor Honourable. Mdu Mhlongo.
The City Mayor, Deputy Mayor Cllr Slondile Mkhize and Speaker Cllr Mfundo Mthenjana, will interact with road users in different operations and encourage good behavior of drivers while also distributing road safety tips at various locations and via social media.
Media is invited to join the Honourable Mayor on 13 April 2017 (Thursday) at a location to be verbally communicated on Wednesday.
