MS THEMBEKA KHUMALO
Chief Operations Officer
The City of uMhlathuze continoulsy look for ways of optimising provision of basic service delivery to its citizens. Ms Khumalo is the new Chief Operations Officer (COO) in the City of uMhlathuze, which is a department responsible for Intergrated Development Plan (IDP), Enterprise Risk Management, Communications and Organisational Perfomance Management.
To achieve this the city has appointed Ms Thembeka Khumalo to manage and coordinate the day-to-day operations and activities of the uMhlathuze Municipality and provide both strategic and support services to the Municipal Manager to ensure that the Municiplaity delivers on its mandate in an intergrated and coordinated manner to entrench a performance-driven culture throughout the institution. Her responsibilities includes overseing the development, implementation and review of policies and strategies of the entire city.
She is also entrusted with responsibility to ensure that the focus remains on customers, communities and stakeholders are continuously engaged in planning, implementation and review processes on all service delivery programmes.
Her much-needed extensive experience in the private sector having her latter responsibilities being the head of Community Development and Projects at Richards Bay Minerals (RBM), Ms Khumalo brings with her the knowledge and practical tactics on how to execute her new public responsibilities.
Ms Khumalo has worked for a government agency and private sector in different roles for up to 15 years. She has acquired the relevant experience needed for this position and also acquired the following qualifications:
- Bachelor of Administration Degree ( University of Zululand)
- National Diploma: Human Resource Management ( University of Zululand)
- National Certificate: Business Management (Durban University of Technology)
- National Certificate: Community Based Development (University of South Africa)
- National Certificate: Local Government Administration ( University of South Africa)
- Post Graduate Diploma in Management:Specialising in Local Economic Development ( Universtiy of Kwa-Zulu Natal)
- Master of Commerce in Leadership Studies
The industrial port City of uMhlathuze boasts with being the home of global industries importing and exporting material thus generating massive economic circulation within the city, province and the country at large. Key priorities of the city is to mobilise and drive foreign direct investments and ensure local beneficiation hence solidifying relationship with critical stakeholders remains crucial for the city, hence Ms Khumalo’s task comes in handy.
