The City of uMhlathuze is not fazed by the media statement from the Democratic Alliance on the additional back-up vehicle in the Mayoral Fleet.
The City Executive Committee where the DA has only one seat, received a report containing practical reasons why the City took the option of buying a back-up vehicle and facts and figures were analysed in comparison with hiring of Mayoral Fleet in case of any grounding of their main cars.
The resolution was subsequently taken by the Council later in the day upon thorough clarifications.
The City has never invested in buying any new Mayoral fleet since the Local Government Elections held last year and the City Leadership are still chauffeured on a fleet bought in the last term of office. It must be noted that the City recently revealed 14 new vehicles for traffic section, new road sweeper, refuse truck and other services vehicles to drive service delivery to the 34 wards.
The City therefore dispels the misleading notion that Traffic Department is in need of such working tools and the City is in financial crisis, as mentioned on the statement.
