Ten families under the City of uMhlathuze municipality are breathing a sigh of relief. This after they were given keys to their new homes. City of uMhlathuze Mayor Cllr Xolani Ngwezi officiated the handover ceremony in eMpangeni. The old Mutual foundation partnered with the municipality through its Corporate Social Investment (CSI) program, aimed at giving back to the community in Ward 5 under the City of uMhlathuze (eNseleni) and other beneficiaries from Ward 11, 12, 15, 18, 22, 25, 29, 31 and 33.
Thank you Old Mutual Foundation for going an extra mile and recognizing that government alone cannot provide decent housing for everyone and Red Cross who donated with groceries to all families. Building a home is a human right issue enshrined in the country's constitution, and it is government's responsibility. We also thank the Office of the Premier of KZN. Following Old Mutual's commitment to build 80 houses after the KZN floods, 70 have been already been completed .10 of these houses are located here in the City of uMhlathuze" said the Mayor.
