Overview
The Infrastructure Services Department is entrusted with planning, developing, expanding, and maintaining the municipality’s core infrastructural systems. Guided by the Constitutional mandate to “provide services to communities in a sustainable manner and promote a safe and healthy environment”, the department ensures reliable, efficient, and environmentally responsible infrastructure that supports social and economic development.

The department focuses on delivering and sustaining essential bulk services, upgrading infrastructure to meet growing demand, and implementing long-term solutions that enhance community well-being and urban resilience.

Key Functional Areas

  • Water and Sanitation Services
    Responsible for the provision, quality assurance, and continuous improvement of potable water supply and wastewater systems.
  • Engineering Support Services
    Provides technical engineering guidance, project oversight, and specialist support across municipal infrastructure initiatives.
  • Scientific Services Section
    Conducts laboratory analysis, environmental sampling, and scientific assessments to ensure compliance with health, safety, and environmental standards.
  • Building and Structures Section
    Oversees the planning, design, and maintenance of municipal buildings and structural assets to ensure safety, accessibility, and functionality.
  • Infrastructure Asset Management
    Manages the lifecycle of infrastructure assets, including planning, investment, maintenance, and renewal to ensure sustainability and cost-effectiveness.
  • Operations & Maintenance
    Ensures uninterrupted services through preventative maintenance, emergency repairs, and routine operational monitoring of critical infrastructure networks.
  • Transportation and Coastal Management Services Section
    Coordinates planning and management of transportation systems and coastal resources, ensuring safety, mobility, and environmental protection.
  • Transportation Planning – Survey, Design and GIS Section
    Provides planning, data analysis, surveying, and engineering design services, supported by advanced GIS capabilities for informed decision-making.
  • Urban Roads & Railway Sidings
    Maintains and upgrades urban road infrastructure and associated railway sidings to support efficient mobility and economic activity.
  • Coastal Engineering Section
    Implements coastal protection measures, shoreline management initiatives, and engineering interventions that safeguard coastal communities and infrastructure.
  • Customer Support Services, Marketing and Retail
    Enhances customer experience through service requests management, stakeholder communication, and promotion of municipal services.
