
City of uMhlathuze municipality mayor Cllr Xolani Ngwezi has commended police for arresting three men suspected of stealing electrical cables belonging to the municipality.
The arrests took place this Alton,afternoon at Alton. The three men were caught with electrical cables which had been reported stolen. One of the suspects is an employee of a security company contracted by the municipality.
The arrests were made by the KCDM Infrastructure task team. Mayor Cllr. Ngwezi has strongly condemned the actions of these suspects.
Describing them as putting the municipality into disrepute. The Mayor wishes to thank members of the police and private security guards for working together to apprehend these suspects.
Councillor Ngwezi believes that these arrests will help law enforcement authorities to get to the bottom of what appears to be a syndicate. Furthermore, the mayor wishes to caution members of the public to remain vigilant and report people who sell stolen goods. Recently, a sub-station in eMpangeni was vandalised leaving many residents without power for several hours.
