The City of uMhlathuze Extends Its Gratitude for a Successful Premier's Cup Event.

The City of uMhlathuze expresses its profound gratitude and appreciation to the football fans who turned out in huge numbers to enjoy the Premier's Cup matches, particularly the residents of our city who braved the rain to be a part of this historic event.

The Mayor of uMhlathuze, Honourable Councillor Xolani Ngwezi, expressed his deep appreciation to the passionate soccer fans who attended the game despite the heavy rain. He also extended special gratitude to the Premier of KwaZulu-Natal, Honourable Ntuli, for choosing the City of uMhlathuze as the host city for this prestigious tournament, and to the MEC for Sports, Arts and Culture, Honourable Khawula, for the financial support that made this event possible.

Mayor Ngwezi further shared his joy at the positive economic impact the tournament had on local businesses. From street vendors and the taxi industry to hotels and B&Bs that were fully booked, the event significantly boosted the local economy and brought vibrancy to the city.

“It is truly fulfilling to see the people of our City enjoying such positive and memorable experiences,” said Mayor Ngwezi. “This is precisely what we pledged to deliver when we assumed office, meaningful progress that touches the lives of our communities.”

This marked the first high-profile tournament to be held at the Richards Bay Stadium since its recent refurbishment and expansion to meet Premier Soccer League (PSL) standards.

The tournament was a resounding success, culminating in a thrilling victory for the home team, Richards Bay FC, who secured a 1–0 win over Durban City FC.
