THE CITY OF uMHLATHUZE IS OFFERING TERTIARY EDUCATION FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE GRANTS TO RESIDENTS OF uMHLATHUZE LOCAL MUNICIPALITY
WHO WISH TO PURSUE THEIR STUDIES IN ACADEMIC FIELDS OF THEIR CHOICE AT AN ACCREDITED GOVERNMENT TERTIARY INSTITUTION.


This is a once-off assistance of R6000 for qualifying residents.
CRITERIA FOR AWARDING FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE


1. A student shall be eligible for financial assistance subject to the following conditions:
1.1 He/She must be a resident of uMhlathuze Municipality.
1.2 He/She must meet the minimum registration requirements of an accredited tertiary institution in the country.
1.3 He/She must have qualified for a National Senior Certificate and met the minimum requirements for admission to a bachelor’s degree, diploma or
higher certificate study as gazetted for admission to higher education.
2. Scope of financial assistance:
2.1 The financial assistance shall only cover a maximum of R6 000 (six thousand rand) of the cost of registration.
2.2 A data base for all the learners that will receive assistance is going to be kept by the Municipality to use as its source in the future developments.
2.3 Examination results must be submitted to the Municipality as soon as they are available and satisfactory reports in respect of the courses undertaken
must be submitted timeously.
2.4 The financial assistance can only be granted to applicants who applied for assistance and which was approved. Any prior registration at a tertiary
institution (before the assistance was approved) excludes any reimbursement that the applicant may feel he/she is entitled to.
The following MUST be submitted for all applications to be processed:
a) Certified copy of Matric Certificate/ Matric statement of results and Identity Document.
b) Academic performance for current tertiary students ONLY.

c) Letter of Acceptance from tertiary institution.
d) Proof of financial neediness (confirmation of parents’ financial situation, e.g. payslip, affidavit if unemployed, death certificate if deceased, etc.).
e) Testimonial from a Councillor of a student residing within uMhlathuze Municipality.
f) Letter of motivation from the applicant and any other supporting documents for requesting assistance.
Interested persons are encouraged to send their applications as soon as possible while for those still waiting for the statements of result; the closing date
for applications is 10 March 2021. Requests received after this date will not be considered. Should you not receive any communication from the
Municipality after the closing date, please consider your application unsuccessful.

Applications, in envelopes clearly marked “University Grant Applications” should be posted to: The Municipal Manager, uMhlathuze Municipality, Private
Bag x 1004, Richards Bay 3900 or be hand-delivered at the Security Desk at Richards Bay Civic Centre.
