City of uMhlathuze Mayor Cllr. Xolani Ngwezi has this morning received and assessed a large 132/11kV 40MVA power transformer at the Hercules Substation in Richards Bay central.

This transformer which is expected to start running and working in two weeks’ time is expected to improve the reliability of supply to areas and households from Aquadene, Brackenham, Wild En Weide,Veld en Vlei, Birdswood, Arboretum and industrial customers and subsequently relieve the network supplied by the Polaris substation that supplies most industries in the Alton area, Richards Bay.

This is a second transformer to be delivered as the first one was delivered about two months ago at the Polaris substation and is already up and running, easing up power pressure.

City of uMhlathuze Mayor Xolani Ngwezi says the commissioning of this new transformer will ensure that the second biggest economic hub City in the province is able to adequately and sufficiently supply power to all customers and clients; “This will assist in doing away with power outages that have been outside of the load shedding, businesses have been suffering from these outages, and ours it to ensure that our infrastructure is resilient for business to go on as usual,” says Ngwezi.
