CITY OF uMHLATHUZE PRE-PAID ELECTRICITY TOKEN IDENTIFIER(TID) KEY REVISION NUMBER ROLL OVER

Dear customers,

TID is a unique token identifier that is coded into the token that you purchase from any vending point or outlet.
The current identifier is calculated as the number of minutes that have elapsed since the start of prepaid
electricity base date of 1993.
The software for STS prepaid electricity in South Africa will expire in November 2024. Ensure your prepaid
meters are updated before the deadline to continue recharging. Follow the DIY process outlined below
or contact our team for assistance. Deadline: November 2024
The updating of meter software will start on 1 March 2024 and will be done in phases across the City
of uMhlathuze. The dates for updating the meters per area will be communicated through various
media platforms and Ward Councillors.

Before updating your meter:
• You will receive three sets of 20-digit tokens (two tokens with 20 digits each, followed by your usual 20-digit credit recharge token).
• Tokens not loaded into the meter before the update will not work afterward. The city will not provide credits for unloaded tokens.
• Ensure electricity to your premises is ON during the update process; check load shedding schedules.
• The update process does not delete your current meter balance.
• Insert ALL previously purchased tokens before starting the update.
 
How to update your meter’s software in 3 steps:
If all three tokens are accepted, then the update was successful. You can now purchase and load new tokens into the meter as before.

Enter the first 20 digits of the update token and wait for acceptance.
Input the second 20 digits of the update token and wait for acceptance.
After the first two tokens are accepted,enter your usual 20-digit tokens.
 
If all three tokens are accepted, then the update was successful. You can now purchase and load new tokens into the meter as before.


City of uMhlathuze Teams are on standby to assist if required.
Where a physical visit to your meter is required, please call our call center on 0800 222 827 and you will be provided with
a reference number via sms. Our teams will l carry the identification and your reference number for verification purposes.
